The annual Monty Funspiel which is a fundraiser for the Mont St' Joseph Foundation was another huge success. The event who's main sponsor is BRODA GROUP OF COMPANIES had 32 teams playing this year. The event is ran very proffesional and everybody involved does a great job. Way to go. We look forward to next year's event. |

The 2009 Men's Northerns wrapped up on Sunday, January 25th at the Tisdale Curling Club. There were two teams ( Ian Mayoh and Pete Rieben ) competing from our club. Both teams lost out on the C event and failed to qualify for Provincials. The Corey Martens team from our region who curls out of Rohstern won a B event qualifying game and will now compete at Men's Provincials in Meadow Lake, February 4th - 8th, 2009. Two Prince Albert players are on team Martens, second Les McDougal and lead Sean McCalpine. Good luck guys!!! |

The Conexus Thursday evening closed spiel was held this past weekend at the PAGCC. This bonspiel is closed to all the Conexus primer league teams. The bonspiel had only 15 of the 32 league teams play. The teams played in Pool Play and then crossed over and had event finals. Here are the results of the bonspiel. The mens regional playdowns wrapped up on Sunday, January 18th at the Prince Albert Golf & Curling Club. There were 12 teams playing for 3 spots into the Northern mens playdowns. The Northerns are January 22nd - 25th at the Tisdale Curling Club. The first team to qualify out of the A event was the Ian Mayoh team from the PAGCC. Team Mayoh defeated Corey Martens in the A final to qualify. Other members of team Mayoh are third - Neil Vaughan, second - Arnold Crawford, Lead - Dale Bruce, and alternate - Leo Perrin. On the B side, Pete Rieben from PAGCC defeated Bryan Rindal to get the second spot heading to Northerns. Other team members of team Rieben are third - Justin Dinney, second - Justin Hurl, lead - Chad Gareau. On the C side, Corey Martens from Rohstern defeated Cliff McBeath to earn the last spot into Northerns. Other members of team Martens are third - Ted Lamotte, second - Les McDougal, lead - Sean McAlupine. These three teams are now representing our region at the Mens Northern playdowns in Tisdale. From Northerns 5 teams will advance to Provincials in Meadow Lake February 4th - 8th. Good luck to the Mayoh, Rieben and Martens teams!!! |

The Bryan Rindal rink consisting of third Chris Bannerman, second Angus Hemsworth and lead Larry Ziegeman captured the Thompson rock trophy on Saturday, January 10th as part of the district men's brier playdowns. The trophy is awarderd to the A winner of the playdowns. This year was a little different as there were two A qualifiers, the other team was the Donn Goertz team. Team Goertz and Team Rindal then played for the trophy. In total there were 11 teams competing for 8 spots to the regional playdowns which are being played at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club January 15th - 18th, 2009. At regionals there are 12 teams that compete for 3 spots into the Northern men's playdowns which are being held at the Tisdale curling club. Joining teams Goertz and Rindal at regionals from our club are: Ian Mayoh Pete Rieben Doug Phelps Bob Gill Bobby Costain Cliff McBeath Good luck to all teams at regionals!!! |
