David Stewart of Prince Albert had a strong showing at the 2007 Canadian Men's Amateur Championships which were held at the Riverside Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon. Dave qualified with rounds of 77 and 73, good for a tie for 26th place. The top 64 golfers qualified for the match play portion of the tournament. In his first match Dave defeated Scott Sinclair of Toronto on the 20th hole. Dave continued his great playing the next day with a 5 and 3 victory over Michael Keast of Winnipeg. The second match of the day didn't turn out the way Dave would of liked it to, he was in a battle all day and ended up coming short of the victory losing 2 and 1 to Mitchell Gillies of Williams Lake BC. Even though Dave didn't make it further or eventually to the final it is definetly a great showing and a great accomplishment on making it to the third round of matches. Ron Stewart was playing well in his qualyfing rounds but had some misfortune. After his first round Ron had mistakenly signed a incorrect scorecard and happened to get disqualified. Other Saskatchewan golfers making the 64 person match play cut were Colin Coben of Delisle, Luke Sheard of Saskatoon, and Scott Thompson of St. Wallburg. All three competitors lost their first match. Saskatchewan finished 5th in the team portion of the tournament. Cangratulation to Dave and Ron for both playing well and a job well done.
